  • More VK fashion progress
Here's a work in progress image of my current illustration project.
I still need to make a few little changes here and there as I continue to work on them.

And now a larger version of the left group of girls.

Hopefully I'll survive the week. All of my major projects are due on Monday.

  • This is what I do.
You know your fashion portfolio assignments are getting really nerdy when...
    1. Your inspiration is visual kei.
    2. Your fashion figures are (as always) based on Dungeons & Dragons characters.
    3. You make up a band to fit the theme of the collection and call it D6, referring both to six-sided dice used in Dungeons & Dragons and the fact that your collection has six looks and therefore six band members.
    4. You plan your presentation format to resemble a band poster.
    5. Your presentation will also include an album-sized booklet and a CD containing PDF documents of the illustrations and other relevant data.

I haven't gotten to the part where I start deciding which figure plays which instrument, but that will probably come next as I continue this project. Oh man, I really hope this doesn't discredit my work to potential employers. I just love putting my other hobbies and interests into my work because they make it really personal and special to me.

  • Completed: Superhero fashion
After many long hours and a very frustrating experience in having to completely re-ink one of my figures due to a Photoshop crash, I have finally finished my collection of superhero-inspired fashion illustrations for my portfolio critique tomorrow. Here are a few little preview images:

(click on any of these for the full collection)

Re-inking aside, this has been the most fun I've had with an illustration project in a long time. And believe me, I've been having fun with these projects.

In other news, now that I've caught up with my portfolio class, I'm behind in my other classes. Oops.

  • WIP: Superhero fashion
I'm currently working on a collection of superhero-inspired fashions for my portfolio class, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. My concept for the collection stems from a combination of my dissatisfaction with the impracticality and vulgarity of many female superhero costumes and my desire to step outside of my comfort zone and design an edgier and more modern collection of garments that aren't all based on the idea of an hourglass silhouette and tons of ruffles and gathers. I also wanted this collection to be more practical and woman-friendly, but I don't think I've gotten there yet, even though I think that the woman who could wear these clothes would feel quite empowered by them.

The project has been a great experience so far because it has provided me with a great opportunity to learn more about comic book superheroes and expand my horizons, plus I get to experiment with all these dynamic poses.

I really want to do poses like this for all of my drawing projects now, hahaha.

  • It's about time.
Look, I updated my website! And I am updating my blog now! Oh man, this thing is so old. Luckily my senior portfolio class required me to do a web-based project, so I took it as the perfect opportunity to completely revamp my existing website to make it more professional.

The contents of my blog are still somewhat unprofessional because it comes from a time when my website was more of a personal hobby rather than a professional portfolio. I'm not sure what to do about it because I still want to use it as an informal way to share what I'm doing and what inspires me at any particular time.

The other problem I need to solve here is that problem where I make a website or update my blog and then don't come back it again for an entire year or longer. Since my website is now part of my professional portfolio, I need to start keeping it updated on a more regular basis.

I guess I'll figure things out as I go.
